Conservatory Fitzroy gardens

Conservatory Conservatory is a performance-ritual addressing plant-life. It takes place in the Fitzroy Conservatory, here re-imagined as The Embassy of Flowers. The performance considers how forms of non-human life may have something to say, even though it is unlikely that humans will ever figure out what that ‘something’ is. Here, in a spirit of mutual-mystification, humans indicate their respect for plant-life, and flowers graciously receive the diplomatic gestures of the humans.

The ritual, performed by Margaret Meran Trail, Carolyn Connors, Chris Lewis and guests, is made through sonic vibration and symbolic gesture. It takes the form of a structured improvisation in percussion, voice and electronic samples.

 Hector and Susan

Liquid Architecture  Clemenger Auditorium, National Gallery of Victoria

Hector and Susan is a vocal extravaganza set to a projection of ships and spices, which translated simultaneously on a number of mobile devices: meaning is lost at sea. Hector and Susan were the names of two of the first ships of the East India Trading Company.

SIREN CALL by Madeleine Flynn and Tim Humphrey

Siren Call will proclaim the acoustic and cultural horizons of Footscray, through a spatial interplay of musical forces, contrasting the analog and human scale of instrumentalists, the super-human mechanisms of sirens and horns, and the contrapuntal possibilities of streaming aggregation. The Siren Event explores the motif of ‘the call’, through a 21st Century distributed orchestration. Eleven composers create the work. I am writing a work for male chorus.
